A video featuring former LSU players now in the NFL drew cheers, but when Daniels appeared alongside his ex-teammate, K’Lavon Chaisson, some fans expressed dissatisfaction.

Daniels and his attorney sent a cease-and-desist notice to LSU, demanding they stop using his name, image, and likeness (NIL). The letter warned of legal action if LSU continued to misuse his NIL without permission.
Daniels wore the No. 5 jersey at LSU, which is now worn by sophomore DJ Pickett, a number he claimed throughout his career. Daniels believed LSU should have consulted him before allowing another player to wear No. 5 after he joined the NFL.
After winning the Heisman Trophy in 2023, retiring Daniels’ jersey seemed likely, but LSU has a five-year period before considering such honors. Joe Burrow, another notable LSU player, has had his No. 9 jersey unworn since his departure to the Cincinnati Bengals.
