Democratic Fundraising Efforts in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard

Democrats have been frequenting Nantucket this summer, engaging with the affluent donor community as candidates and leaders prepare for the November elections. Both Nantucket and neighboring Martha’s Vineyard are favored spots for political fundraising. The Democratic Party is leveraging these areas to boost their campaign funds for the midterm elections.

According to federal records, as of June 30, Democratic groups had a total of about $136 million. In contrast, their Republican rivals held approximately $277 million. Among those appearing in fundraising events on Nantucket were House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, and Rep. Seth Moulton.

Senator Jon Ossoff attended a fundraising event on August 29 hosted by Elizabeth Frawley Bagley. Bagley is a significant Democratic figure currently serving as the U.S. ambassador to Brazil. Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama was on Martha’s Vineyard for an event with former Attorney General Eric Holder benefiting the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

Wes Moore, who might run for president in 2028, appeared on Martha’s Vineyard for a DNC fundraising event with DNC Chair Ken Martin. During the same weekend, Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek, aiming for a Senate seat, was seen on Nantucket, sparking questions about his fundraising actions.

Notable Democratic donors Frank Herron and Sandra Urie hosted Rep. Moulton for a fundraising brunch at their Nantucket home. Former First Lady Jill Biden also visited Nantucket to promote her memoir in July.

Republicans have used Nantucket for fundraising as well. In 2022, Vice President JD Vance, with other Senate candidates like Ted Budd and Dr. Mehmet Oz, attended events alongside Florida Senator Rick Scott.

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) targets key battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan, among others. These fundraising activities are essential as both Democrats and Republicans gear up for the upcoming elections.
