Nigel Farage Addresses Donation Scandal Allegations

Speaking to BBC News, Farage claimed he “frankly wasn’t listening” to the conversation where he was filmed discussing potential donation arrangements with senior aides, who later resigned. British law dictates that permissible donors to a U.K. political party must be either U.K.-registered voters or companies. In the revealed scenario, the son met donor criteria, while the father did not.

“The money could come from all over the world, you know,” Farage told the BBC. “Income could have come from various places into a family office based in London. I know electoral and donation law well,” he added.

Farage emphasized that the aides involved, having never participated in fundraising before, should not have been directly handling fundraising activities. Following Channel 4 News’ report on Thursday, the party initiated an internal investigation. During this, senior officials James Orr and Dan Jukes stepped down.

Jukes is known as Farage’s close associate, possessing an “innate sense” of Farage’s instincts, as noted by BBC News. Orr, a key figure in the national conservative movement, served as the head of policy for the Reform Party until his resignation. Both denied any misconduct.

In a Friday interview on LBC Radio, Farage argued that “the party has not received any illicit money.” He asserted, “It is clear entrapment, and they orchestrated it over a prolonged period, leading some of our contractors to make regrettable statements. Consequently, they have been removed, and I am displeased with the situation.”

Jukes issued a statement to BBC News, describing the report as “entrapment over nearly a year by foreign-funded activists.” He affirmed his innocence but chose to step back from politics to clear his name. Similarly, Orr communicated to Sky News his agreement to step down during the party’s internal investigation, declaring his intention to fully cooperate.
