Bedi’s Arrest Highlights FBI’s Success with ‘Most Wanted Fraudsters’

The FBI’s ‘Most Wanted Fraudsters’ initiative has achieved significant progress with the apprehension of Manjit Singh Bedi in India. This marks the fifth arrest within three months under this initiative, targeting those accused of major financial crimes.

According to the FBI, Bedi is wanted for defrauding the U.S. government out of at least $600,000 through a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud scheme. Operating from an Asian grocery store in Tacoma, Washington, Bedi allegedly used Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to give cash to recipients, while retaining half of their benefits for himself.

Bedi initially faced charges of wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud. Despite being ordered to surrender his passport in Washington state, Bedi allegedly escaped to Canada, and later India, leading to a federal arrest warrant accusing him of violating release conditions. Prior to his capture, the FBI offered a $150,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the historic success of capturing five suspects responsible for over $2 billion in fraud, who collectively spent almost 4,000 days evading law enforcement.

‘The days of taking advantage of American taxpayers without consequence are over,’ Patel told Fox News Digital.

The FBI collaborated with Indian authorities to facilitate Bedi’s arrest. Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald reinforced that the Justice Department’s reach is extensive, ensuring that fugitives like Bedi are captured regardless of where they hide.

The bureau is now working to extradite Bedi to the U.S. to face pending charges.
