Sony Pictures Television Studios announced the termination of Jim Thornton from his role on “Wheel of Fortune.” A spokesperson for Sony stated, “Following a thorough investigation, Jim Thornton’s employment with ‘Wheel of Fortune’ has been terminated, effective immediately.” This announcement follows Thornton’s recent suspension from the show.
Jim Thornton had served as the announcer of “Wheel of Fortune” since 2011. His suspension and subsequent firing stem from allegations related to his behavior during an American Airlines flight. According to reports, another passenger lodged a complaint against Thornton, which led to law enforcement meeting him upon landing.
The specific nature of the allegations remains unclear, as Sony has not provided further details. However, Thornton’s attorney addressed these accusations, stating that Thornton “did not engage in any illegal conduct, was not arrested and has not been charged with any crime.” According to his attorney, law enforcement spoke with Thornton briefly and concluded that no wrongdoing occurred.
Jim Thornton became “Wheel of Fortune”’s announcer in 2011, succeeding Charlie O’Donnell following O’Donnell’s passing in 2010. Thornton’s role as announcer had been a significant one, contributing to the show’s continued success.
