Will Ospreay’s First AEW World Championship Defense

Will Ospreay quickly discovered his first title defense opponent for the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Championship. During AEW “Dynamite” on Wednesday, Ospreay delivered a passionate promo. He praised his All In opponent, Kenny Omega, as “the best wrestler in the world” over the last decade.

Ospreay secured the AEW World Championship at All In on August 30, 2026. Reflecting on the previous champions, including Chris Jericho, ‘Hangman’ Page, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, and Swerve Strickland, Ospreay expressed disbelief in joining their ranks. “I worked hard for this,” he said. “All my idols, they’re now my rivals.” He declared himself the standard bearer, stating, “I am your AEW world champion.”

The night continued with Ospreay joining a 10-man tag team match. His team, which included Andrade El Idolo, Callum Newman, Francesco Akira, and Henare, faced Gabe Kidd, Bishop Kaun, Ricochet, Toa Liona, and Clark Connors. Ospreay’s team emerged victorious, but trouble followed.

Gabe Kidd attempted to attack Ospreay with a chair, but Jon Moxley intervened. Though Kidd and Connors are part of Moxley’s faction, The Death Riders, Moxley showed support for Ospreay. Moxley has supported Ospreay through a neck injury recovery and presented him with the Union Jack before All In.

As Moxley returned the world title to Ospreay, the crowd energized. A match between Ospreay and Moxley for the AEW World Championship is set for September 26 at All Out. Meanwhile, Andrade has a title shot through winning the Casino Gauntlet match, but the timing is uncertain.

For now, all eyes are on Ospreay and Moxley’s upcoming showdown.
