A SWAT team took decisive action during a standoff involving a suspect in Oregon’s rural residential area. Erik Gordon Shunn, 53, was reportedly involved in a shooting spree targeting tree workers near his home in Clackamas County. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported Shunn fired over 200 rounds during the incident.
The episode was captured on video by a CCSO drone, which showed Shunn firing directly at the aircraft. Authorities later observed him operating a compact tractor near the front of his house. The SWAT team used their vehicle to trap the tractor against the house, facilitating Shunn’s apprehension. SWAT officers quickly exited their vehicle after pinning the suspect.

Shunn’s actions prompted the Clackamas County SWAT Team’s response following reports from neighbors. Professional arborists hired to cut down trees were fired upon. A 911 call indicated Shunn possessed several firearms, and witnesses claimed he fired about 20 rounds at the tree company staff.
Authorities observed Shunn in his driveway, reportedly attempting to create a barricade by knocking down trees with his tractor. They decided to apprehend him when he became separated from his rifle while driving near his home.
SWAT personnel found the highest chance of safely apprehending Shunn by using the separation from his rifle.
Shunn was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. SWAT checked on neighbors and involved tree workers, ensuring their safety and evacuation. CCSO confirmed no injuries occurred, including Shunn’s mother, who was present.
Shunn now faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, unlawful firearm possession, first-degree attempted criminal mischief, and interfering with a peace officer. He remains in custody without bail at Clackamas County Jail.
