Scottie Scheffler’s Priorities Beyond Wealth

Scottie Scheffler has recently topped the PGA Tour’s career earnings list, amassing over $130 million. At 30 years old, he has already outpaced Tiger Woods’ career earnings by $10 million. However, as his caddie Ted Scott notes, financial gain isn’t Scheffler’s main focus.

Rise to No. 1

Scheffler claimed the number one spot in world rankings in March 2022, during a period when LIV Golf was attempting to attract players away from the PGA Tour. This was shortly before the LIV Tour’s first event.

Partnership with Ted Scott

Scott began working with Scheffler in November 2021. At that time, Scheffler was ranked 19th globally. They were still getting to know each other when a significant conversation revealed Scheffler’s priorities.

“When I first started working for him, he was 19th in the world, and he had a white golf bag,” Scott said. “I didn’t know him that well, and I asked him, I was like: ‘Why don’t you have sponsors?’ He’s like, ‘Well, because I just want to play with the equipment that I want to play.'”

Scott shared that during the LIV Golf discussions, he speculated Scheffler might receive a $250 million offer to join. Scheffler responded, “I don’t care what they offer me. They can offer me a billion dollars. I’m going to play where the best players are because I just want to beat people.” This statement highlighted Scheffler’s commitment to competing against top players more than financial incentives.

Success on the PGA Tour

Before joining Scheffler, Scott had already built an impressive career, highlighted by caddying for Bubba Watson’s two Masters victories. In partnership with Scheffler, Scott has contributed to 22 PGA Tour victories and four major championships since the pair began working together.

Scheffler’s earnings totaled nearly $31 million on the PGA Tour in 2026. Given that caddies typically earn around 10% of players’ earnings, Scott likely received over $3 million from Scheffler’s 2026 season alone.
