Anna Kelly, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary, praised Driscoll for advancing President Trump’s agenda to strengthen the Department of the Army. Kelly highlighted Driscoll’s leadership during military operations and his role in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Driscoll also worked on accelerating the military’s drone development, crucial as warfare increasingly utilizes unmanned systems.
Driscoll’s resignation is part of wider Pentagon changes under Hegseth’s tenure. These adjustments impacted various levels of the Defense Department, including civilian leadership. As Professor Emeritus Rajan Menon noted, there’s significant upheaval in DoD’s senior ranks.

These shifts coincide with ongoing U.S. military campaigns in Iran, raising questions about Hegseth’s Pentagon management.
Amidst Driscoll’s resignation, public support for the military actions in Iran has declined. A University of Massachusetts Amherst poll revealed 68% disapproval of Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. 54% disapprove of U.S. military actions. The YouGov/Economist poll shows similar disapproval, with only 30% supporting Trump’s approach.
