U.S. State Department Updates Israel Travel Advisory

The U.S. State Department has made changes to its Israel travel advisory. Family members of U.S. government employees can now travel to the country.

On August 26, the State Department reaffirmed a Level 3 advisory. This advises Americans to reconsider travel due to terrorism and unrest. The update at the same time noted that family members can join U.S. government employees in Israel.

The advisory highlighted increased risks in certain areas of Israel because of regional instability. Specifically, U.S. government workers face restrictions on travel north of Route 85, south to Route 90, and Route 87. Areas within seven miles of the Gaza Strip and 1.5 miles of the Israel-Egypt border are also restricted. An exception is made at the Taba border crossing.

Any official travel of U.S. government personnel within these areas requires approval from the U.S. embassy’s security office, the advisory added.
