Designation of Global Terrorist Entity

Recently, websites associated with Portland’s Rose City Antifa and Jane’s Revenge went dark following the State Department’s designation of Autistici/Inventati (A/I Collective) as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity. This Italy-based technology provider allegedly supported violent far-left networks. A State Department official highlighted that A/I Collective acted as the digital backbone for global Antifa terror activities.

Impact and Response

Following the terror designation, many servers and websites used by these groups for plotting attacks and concealing activities were disabled. Rose City Counter-Info is among them; a site used for publishing personal information of Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel and organizing violent activities. Federal records document one instance of a man pleading guilty for targeting a Customs and Border Protection helicopter with a laser pointer, prompting an aborted landing.

Actions Taken Against Jane’s Revenge

Jane’s Revenge also utilized A/I services to claim responsibility for attacks on pregnancy centers and incite further violence. Notably, they admitted to the firebombing of a crisis pregnancy center in Madison, Wisconsin, in May 2022.

U.S. Sanctions and Technology Platform Outages

Sanctions from the State Department prohibit U.S. entities from business transactions with A/I and freeze any assets under U.S. jurisdiction. These actions caused outages, with NoBlogs, a significant platform hosted by A/I containing thousands of sites, experiencing intermittent accessibility issues. The State Department has not specified whether a U.S. agency directly impaired A/I’s infrastructure.

Media Connections and A/I’s Defense

A/I was accused of providing encrypted communication services to violent left-wing groups across the U.S. and Europe and hosting media that distributed material from known terrorist organizations. In response, A/I denied these allegations, describing themselves as a volunteer-run Italian tech collective offering tools for “digital self-defense.” Their statement reinforces that antifascism and anticapitalism are distinct from terrorism.
