The New York congresswoman, regarded as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, rejoined DSA following a series of Democratic primary wins against incumbents.
Despite her membership lapsing for seven years, Ocasio-Cortez remained closely aligned with DSA, which continued to acknowledge her as one of its own. DSA confirmed her renewed status, noting that it happened in August 2026. Initially joining in 2018 for a one-year term, her membership expired a year later.
DSA leaders reviewed her status after she mentioned being a member of its New York City chapter, but not the national entity. At the time of her original membership, renewals were manual; they have since switched to automatic.
