Wife Seeks Release for Detained Cuban Musician

The wife of Degnis Nelson Bofill Miranda, a Cuban musician with a Latin Grammy, seeks his release after his detention at Miami International Airport. His wife, Mara Delgado, worries about possible deportation, fearing uncertainty about seeing him again.

Bofill, a 39-year-old percussionist and composer, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on August 19 upon arrival from New York. He was taken to the Krome Detention Center after initial processing at the Miramar ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations office.

“I’m concerned about him getting deported, because I don’t know when I will be able to see him again,” Delgado shared with CBS News Miami.

Their life changed when Bofill was arrested. He came to the U.S. in 2023, the same year they married in Cuba. He has a pending asylum case and wishes to continue it outside detention.

ICE stated Bofill legally entered the U.S. in April 2023 but violated his admission terms, leading to his arrest during an immigration operation. He will undergo due process according to immigration law.

Delgado highlights her husband’s contribution to music. Known for winning a 2022 Latin Grammy for “Ancestros Sinfónico,” Bofill has been part of Miami’s music scene. He’s also a member of the Latin Recording Academy’s voting body since 2025.

With Bofill in custody, Delgado launched an online fundraiser to cover legal expenses. She set a goal of $60,000, with the community showing significant support.

“I don’t know when I will be able to see him again,” Delgado expressed.
