ByteDance and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) have reached an agreement to enhance copyright protections. This follows concerns from Disney and other studios about ByteDance’s AI tools potentially creating content with unauthorized use of copyrighted characters and celebrity likenesses.
Earlier this year, the MPA issued a cease-and-desist notice due to worries about Seedance’s AI capabilities. The agreement targets the company’s Seedance video and Seedream image-generation models, which faced scrutiny for their handling of intellectual property.
In response to feedback, ByteDance announced that the latest iterations of their models have improved intellectual-property safeguards. These models are available on platforms such as TikTok, CapCut, and Dreamina.
Both ByteDance and the MPA have committed to ongoing collaboration. They aim to ensure robust copyright protection as AI technologies continue to progress.
