Crane Collapse in Miami Leads to Investigation

Construction workers faced a tense moment in Miami as a crane’s arm malfunctioned and crashed onto a nearby luxury high-rise’s pool deck. A bystander, Macie Norrod, captured the incident on video. The footage displayed the crane’s arm airborne before it sliced through palm trees on the elevated pool area of the One Plaza West Brickell condo building.

Norrod witnessed the event from her home office, describing her shock and disbelief at the unfolding situation, as reported by Storyful. She expressed fear for the workers’ lives, worried they might be crushed under the weights of the crane.

The video showed workers in green vests precariously holding onto the crane’s upper structure as it collapsed. They later descended safely via ladders to the ground. According to Miami Fire Rescue spokesperson Lt. Pete Sanchez, the crane was being assembled when it suffered a failure, causing the arm to fall onto the pool deck, where it partially submerged in the pool.

Authorities acted swiftly. Firefighters accessed the pool deck and confirmed there were no victims. The area was secured to keep residents and the public safe while ensuring the scene was monitored. Additionally, the construction crew confirmed that all workers were accounted for, with no injuries reported.

The incident is currently under investigation by Miami’s Building Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. These authorities are examining the circumstances around the crane collapse to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
