Columbia, S.C. — South Carolina Republicans voted on Tuesday to choose the nominee for the U.S. Senate in the November election. This follows the recent death of Sen. Lindsey Graham. Sen. Darline Graham Nordone was appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster last month to complete her late brother’s term. President Trump supports Nordone’s candidacy.
She looks so nice, but she’s actually tough and strong, and she’s the perfect person to carry on Lindsey’s legacy.
, President Trump stated during a tele-rally.
Despite Trump’s endorsement, some voters are exploring other options in the crowded race. This opens the possibility of a runoff between the top two candidates on Aug. 25.
Since her appointment, Nordone has been active as South Carolina’s junior senator. She participated in key votes, including confirming Attorney General Todd Blanche and supporting a bill to sanction buyers of Russian oil and gas.
I’m still standing, I’m still going and that shows you how strong I am.
, Nordone said at a campaign event in Florence, S.C.
Nordone emphasizes cost of living concerns, stating, While I know national security is important, I’m going to be more focused on the family struggles.

South Carolina GOP Race
Rep. Ralph Norman, a fiscal conservative, focuses on reducing federal deficit. The Senate is the body where good bills die,
Norman remarked. He’s endorsed by GOP Senators Mike Lee and Rick Scott.
Rep. Russell Fry defeated former Congressman Tom Rice in 2022 to claim his place. He insists that more choices benefit the conservative movement, despite claims he isn’t aligned with MAGA.
Former Congressman and Gov. Mark Sanford, first elected alongside Lindsey Graham in 1994, speaks against national debt. He highlighted his executive experience by bringing piglets named Pork and Barrel to the Statehouse, emphasizing his record on tough budget cuts.
GOP voters show mixed support for candidates. 61,000 voters cast early ballots last week. In Oconee County, Robert Herron prefers Sanford’s policies and experience. Frank Owens supports Nordone after her debate performance. Gigi Vray, a Charleston Republican, values Sanford’s representation of the state.
Deborah Dowd from Horry County chose Nordone after watching the debate and appreciating Lindsey Graham’s Senate tenure.
The GOP nominee will compete against Democratic nominee Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, in a predominantly Republican state. This suggests that the winner of the GOP primary will likely triumph in the November midterm.
