A tragic incident occurred in Savonburg, Kansas, resulting in the death of a 4-year-old child last Thursday. According to Kansas officials, the child was electrocuted by a clothes dryer.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided a statement on Saturday. It reported that the child received an electrical shock from a 220-volt dryer while at home. The child’s parents found the child unconscious and rushed to a local hospital at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced the child dead at the hospital. No foul play is suspected. However, the ACSO continues its investigation into the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office extends our heartfelt condolences to the family members and all those affected by this tragedy, including the Allen County dispatchers, first responders, and hospital personnel.
A 220-volt electrical current poses a significant risk. It can cause serious injury or even death, including cardiac arrest.
While home clothes dryers are associated with thousands of fires each year due to lint buildup, cases of death by electrocution from such appliances are rare. A similar incident occurred in 2018. A 10-year-old boy in a Houston-area apartment complex died from electrocution inside a dryer. Investigators ruled that case accidental as no injuries or foul play were found.
