Controversy Surrounds Crooked Media’s ‘Pod Save America’ After Social Media Clip Removal

1 hour ago 0

Crooked Media’s ‘Pod Save America’, a popular progressive podcast, faced criticism after a social media clip was removed. The clip, critical of far-left streamer Hasan Piker, was deleted and then a longer version was shared later. The podcast, hosted by former Obama staffers, featured Chris Hayes to discuss Democratic politics with guest host Alex Wagner. Discussion included Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s ties with Piker, with liberal pundits addressing concerns about Piker’s controversial statements.

Piker has been criticized for his comments, such as those blaming America for the September 11 attacks and praising various dictators. Democrats are unsure about Piker’s role in general elections due to his controversial rhetoric, including dismissing grave events involving Hamas.

Abdul El-Sayed is running in the Democratic primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan. During a campaign event in Detroit, Hasan Piker was present. Chris Hayes noted doubts about campaigning with Piker and mentioned the need for Piker to be mindful of his remarks if he wishes to contribute positively.

The controversy arose when the ‘Pod Save America’ clip was deleted from X, as observed by Michael LaRosa, former special assistant to President Biden. Others, like gun control activist Shannon Watts, noticed the removal.

LaRosa, previously press secretary for Jill Biden, had criticized El-Sayed’s association with Piker, referencing Piker’s past remarks, such as claiming “America deserved 9/11” during a 2019 livestream.

Following online backlash, a longer version of the clip appeared after initial complaints. LaRosa highlighted the removal in his criticism and believed moderation catalyzed its return.

Shannon Watts suggested the podcast extended the clip for added context. LaRosa speculated on pressure from Piker’s or El-Sayed’s camp to alter the content.

Political figures like Julian Epstein, who served during the Clinton impeachment hearing, also expressed dissent against El-Sayed after his association with Piker. Epstein criticized media discussion around Piker, labeling him a ‘shock jock’ rather than a substantive commentator.

‘Pod Save America’ previously annoyed Biden supporters when co-hosts urged President Joe Biden to reconsider his candidacy in the 2024 election, questioning the misleading ‘cheap fakes’ narratives concerning Biden’s health.
