Zuckerberg’s Yacht Misses Maritime Assist Call

The crew on Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht did not respond to a radio call for help from a skiff stranded off Alaska due to lack of fuel. By the time they realized the situation, another ship nearby had already assisted, according to a Meta CEO spokesperson.

The Alaska Beacon stated the skiff had sought help via the U.S. Coast Guard. The Wilderness Legacy, a nearby small cruise ship, responded by towing the skiff into Farragut Bay, Southeast Alaska, and refueled it.

Though Zuckerberg’s yacht, named Launchpad, was closer, it didn’t respond. Michael Love, on the Wilderness Legacy cruise, shared on Bluesky his experience rescuing the stranded vessel. He mentioned the Coast Guard had contacted Zuckerberg’s yacht, which was nearer, but it did not reply, leading to “near unanimous booing” when announced by the captain.

A spokesperson clarified on Sunday that the yacht Launchpad initially missed the assist call. Zuckerberg and his family were not aboard at the incident time. The Coast Guard confirmed the skiff wasn’t in distress. By the time Launchpad’s crew checked the Coast Guard’s contact on another radio channel, assistance was complete. They expressed gratitude for everyone’s safety.
