The NFL season approaches, and all eyes are on Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, regarded as one of the top wide receivers. Last season, he ranked third in the NFL with 125 receptions and fourth with 1,412 receiving yards. He tied for 11th place with eight receiving touchdowns. Chase has now set his sights on increasing that number.
“Honestly, man, the only goal that I have for myself going forward is just to get 23 touchdowns. … I want to break the record with that,” Chase stated in an interview with NFL Network. He further emphasized, “That’s not my full goal every day. My goal is to be better the next day than the last day. Try to get my team better than what they was the last day.”
The record he aims to beat is 23 single-season receiving touchdowns, held by Randy Moss since 2007. Chase would need 24 touchdowns in the upcoming season to surpass this milestone. Given that he scored 17 touchdowns in 2024, his highest with the Bengals, this target seems within reach.
Key to Chase’s success is quarterback Joe Burrow, who returns after missing part of last season due to injury. Despite limited play, Burrow threw for 17 touchdowns. Chase recorded several two-touchdown games and will likely need more of these. If he stays healthy for the entire season, Chase benefits from an additional regular-season game compared to Moss’s 2007 season.
Following the team’s training camp and preseason activities, Chase will begin his pursuit when the Bengals face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 13.
