An incident near Liberty Island, New York Harbor resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including an infant, after a boat capsized on Saturday night. The authorities confirmed these tragic details.
The NYPD reported responding to a call about an overturned vessel near Liberty Island at approximately 10:25 p.m. Initial reports indicated that twelve people were rescued from the water before police arrived.
An adult woman and an infant were discovered in the water by NYPD divers. Both individuals were transported to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead. Their identities have not been disclosed at this time.
Other passengers on the boat were also taken to the hospital. Authorities indicated they are likely in stable condition.
The cause of the capsizing is currently under investigation. No arrests have been reported concerning the incident.
A police source informed Fox News Digital that the boat involved was a 22-foot bowrider. Responding to the scene were the NYPD’s Harbor Unit, Scuba Team, and Aviation Unit, along with the U.S. Coast Guard.
