El-Sayed narrowly defeated the establishment-backed Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens to become the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate. Bouchard remarked that El-Sayed’s victory highlights divisions within the Democratic Party. He noted the more progressive wing is louder but not necessarily representative of the majority in Michigan. “Voters are hard-working moderates seeking results, not partisan politics,” he said.
Bouchard connected the rise of socialist candidates in Michigan, such as El-Sayed, with similar trends nationwide. He added that socialism consistently fails when tested globally. “After the fall of the Berlin Wall,” Bouchard noted, “people favored freedom in America over communist ideals.”
While Bouchard promotes change, he asserts socialism is not the solution. He critiqued El-Sayed’s stance on defunding the police, contrasting this with his approach to building rather than dismantling the country.
In the upcoming November election, Bouchard will face Democrat Christina Hines, a former county prosecutor. He plans to focus on their differing views on crime. Bouchard criticized Hines’ “soft on crime” approach, affirming his commitment to victim protection and enforcement of laws.
Hines responded to Bouchard’s criticisms by emphasizing her record as a prosecutor. She highlighted her experience in convicting serious offenders and her commitment to fighting corruption.
