Cardinals Rookie QB Carson Beck Impresses in Preseason Debut

Carson Beck, a rookie quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, made a significant impact in his preseason debut during the Hall of Fame Game. Although it was a preseason match, Beck’s performance showcased his potential as he started the game and played the first half.

Beck led a 96-yard touchdown drive, displaying his skills and readiness. His excitement was palpable as he spoke about the chance to play again. He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “From the time you cross the white lines, and you’re out there on the first play, I was ready to roll. Since last night, when I was laying in bed, I could barely sleep, thinking about having the opportunity to play football again. Just never taking it for granted.”

Beck’s journey to this point involved overcoming an injury and surgery. He had to undergo UCL repair, which made him value each opportunity on the field. Beck acknowledged how this experience fostered gratitude and faith in his path forward.

“Ever since I went through the injury, the surgery and had to get my UCL repaired, everything, I don’t know just having gratitude for the game and every opportunity that I get is that I really found faith in,” he shared.

Before joining the Cardinals, Beck played for Georgia and completed his college football career at Miami. At Miami, he led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship. In this preseason game, Beck completed 14 of 19 passes for 188 yards, including a touchdown. His performance earned him a quarterback rating of 125.4 for the half he played.

The Cardinals entered halftime tied 17-17 with the Panthers. The teams exchanged scores in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers secured a victory with a game-winning drive led by their rookie quarterback, Haynes King, who reached the end zone to clinch a 33-30 win.

Head coach Mike LaFleur praised Beck’s performance, noting his strong debut. “I’m proud of the way he played, and it’s a good, good first stepping stone for him,” LaFleur commented.

Despite the strong start, Beck is currently third on the Cardinals’ depth chart, following Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II. His future opportunities, including potential starts in the upcoming games, remain uncertain. The Cardinals’ preseason schedule continues with games against the Las Vegas Raiders (Aug. 13), the Dallas Cowboys (Aug. 22), and concludes with a visit to play the Packers (Aug. 28). The regular season opener is set for Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
