Vessel Struck by Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

A trade vessel navigating the Strait of Hormuz reported an incident involving a projectile strike. The event occurred overnight Tuesday near the coast of Oman.

The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received the report amid ongoing discussions of peace talks between Iran and the U.S. Earlier in the week, President Donald Trump announced that a deal to reopen the Strait and pursue the denuclearization of Iran was close to being finalized.

Details were scant, with the UKMTO mentioning only that an “unknown projectile” hit the vessel around 2 a.m. local time. The ship was situated 23 miles northeast of Al Khasab in Oman. The organization’s report did not include the vessel’s name, flag, or any information about injuries.

Ambrey, a British maritime security firm, confirmed damage to the ship but provided no further information.

Recent tensions have risen as Iran denies involvement in talks with the U.S. despite confirmations from several sources that diplomatic engagements are proceeding.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari stated Tuesday that mediations are underway among the involved parties, emphasizing a diplomatic resolution.

However, Iran’s foreign ministry contradicted reports on Monday, acknowledging discussions solely with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump expressed his exasperation with these conflicting narratives. He insisted that Iranian officials are indeed holding talks with the U.S. despite public denials.

On the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote about Iran’s contradictory statements, adding, “They ask for a meeting, some would say ‘beg,’ talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions.”

During an Oval Office event, Trump remarked, “For some reason when they’re talking, they don’t like saying that they’re talking. So I say we’re in talks, big deal, we’re in talks. And they’ll sometimes deny it even though they spend hours and hours together talking.”
