Jillian Michaels Warns Against Unregulated Weight-Loss Peptides

2 days ago 0

Fitness expert Jillian Michaels cautions Americans against purchasing unregulated “gray-market” weight-loss peptides online and self-administering them. Speaking on the “Fox News Rundown,” Michaels emphasizes the risks posed by foreign-sourced, unapproved chemical compounds. These include potential heart problems, vision impairment, and hormonal imbalances.

“These are significant issues that require further research and consultation with your doctor before deciding ‘this sounds like a miracle drug,'” Michaels told Fox News’ Alex Hogan.

The FDA is set to review seven popular peptides advertised for weight loss, healing, and longevity. Michaels highlighted that although peptide drugs are “not difficult to obtain” online, the authenticity of the products remains uncertain. She advises against self-dosing and recommends using them under medical supervision.

The federal government has intensified efforts to curtail illegal sales and misleading marketing of GLP-1 compounds.

In March, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued 30 warning letters to telehealth companies for false claims about compounded GLP-1 products. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary stresses that while compounded drugs address shortages or unique patient needs, they should not bypass the FDA approval process.

In June, the FDA warned about unapproved GLP-1 drugs, reporting numerous adverse events linked to these products. Unapproved versions lack the FDA’s safety, effectiveness, and quality review and vendors falsely label chemicals as “for research purposes only.”

Michaels claims that the illegal sales surge stems from individuals aiming for rapid weight loss inspired by extreme body transformations in pop culture. “People in major cities purchase these drugs on the gray market, driven by the desire to reduce size quickly,” she explained. This rise results in visible negative effects among celebrities.

The quest for quick weight reduction leads to cosmetic issues such as “Ozempic ears” and other complaints. Michaels sees a pattern where celebrities appear aged and unhealthy due to these drugs’ adverse effects. While FDA-approved GLP-1s suit individuals with severe obesity or chronic conditions under doctor supervision, Michaels warns that using them for minor weight loss poses overlooked risks.

Potential severe side effects include vision loss and suicidal thoughts. Michaels cautions that ceasing unregulated weight-loss compounds may lead to intense hunger rebound.

Users might believe they’re opting for a short-term solution but face long-term consequences when their body’s natural hormone production is impaired. This results in a yo-yo dieting cycle that’s hard to break due to biochemical disruption.
