Ongoing Investigation into the Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie

Correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti reports that an inconclusive hair sample found at the Tucson, Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie has not led to any suspects. Guthrie is the mother of ‘Today’ show co-host Savannah Guthrie and has been missing since January 31. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared this information publicly for the first time, though the results were verified in early June.

Sheriff Nanos explained that other evidence, including blood and DNA found at the scene, remains under analysis, but has also not returned significant results. A separate DNA sample, previously sent to a private lab in Florida and then to the FBI in Virginia, lacks further clarification.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last observed after an evening at her daughter Annie’s home. Security footage showed a suspect at her door on February 1. Authorities believe she was likely abducted, as ransom notes have surfaced. The suspect remains elusive, evading additional security and traffic cameras.

Nanos suspects the individual may be local to Tucson but cautions that this is not confirmed. “Crime typically involves locals,” he stated. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie issued a plea to her mother’s alleged kidnappers, urging them to provide information that could lead to her mother’s discovery.

The case prompted criticism from FBI Director Kash Patel, who reproached the sheriff’s department for a sluggish federal engagement. Nanos responded, emphasizing his confidence in local and federal agencies’ cooperation.

Despite the case’s complexity, Sheriff Nanos remains hopeful about resolution, stressing the importance of protecting investigation details. “We have more information than disclosed,” he affirmed.
