The Trump administration seeks to employ a specialized federal court created thirty years ago to deport Nazira Haji Zada, accused of aiding a terror plot inspired by the Islamic State. This is the first case involving this court since its inception.

Details of Nazira Haji Zada’s Case

Nazira Haji Zada, a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, faces deportation via the Alien Terrorist Removal Court after her recent arrest. The initial hearing is scheduled in Washington, D.C. Officials allege that she supported her family in planning an attack aligning with ISIS, targeting Election Day voters.

“The allegations demonstrate that terrorists have no place in the United States,” acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated.

Family Involvement

FBI memos indicate Haji Zada’s backing for ISIS, including her children’s loyalty pledges. Her son, Abdullah Haji Zada, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for involvement in a 2024 Election Day terror plot, agreeing to deportation after release.

Her son-in-law, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, faced charges for conspiracy and attempting material support to ISIS. He aimed to further attack plans, ordering rifles and liquidating family assets. He also purchased one-way tickets for family members to Afghanistan.

The Role of Alien Terrorist Removal Court

The Alien Terrorist Removal Court, established in 1996, will handle Zada’s case, marking its first petition. The court assesses government applications for expelling noncitizens labeled “alien terrorists” using classified evidence.

The court consists of five federal judges appointed from diverse districts. All proceedings occur at the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse in Washington.
