Former BYU Player Mourns Loss of Son in Tragic Drowning

Former BYU Cougars football player Curtis Brown and his family, including his wife Kim, are experiencing immense grief after the tragic drowning of their two-year-old son, Haze. This heart-wrenching accident occurred at the family’s home in Clovis, California, on July 26, according to the police, as reported by the New York Post.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Chandler Pearson, a close family friend, to support the Brown family during this challenging time. Pearson expressed on the fundraising page that the Browns are enduring an “unimaginable loss.”

“Kim and Curtis recently lost their miracle baby, Haze, in a tragic drowning accident. No words can ease the heartbreak they are facing as they grieve the loss of their precious son,” Pearson shared on the GoFundMe page.

The fundraising campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden of funeral and other unforeseen expenses, allowing the family to focus on healing. At the time of writing, the campaign had raised $77,375 toward a $100,000 goal.

The New York Post reported that a family member found Haze unresponsive in the pool and immediately called 911, prompting police, EMTs, and firefighters to respond swiftly. Despite CPR attempts, Haze could not be revived and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Clovis Police Department spokesman Ty Wood emphasized the importance of supervising children near water and the need for adults to learn CPR and have rescue equipment accessible. This tragic incident underscores these safety precautions.

The Brown family, which includes Haze’s siblings Trey and triplets Cruze, Julie, and Kash, is receiving widespread support from the community.

Curtis Brown had a notable career with the BYU Cougars from 2002 to 2006. In 2004, he gained 789 yards on 158 carries, scoring six touchdowns, which marked his emergence as a leading player for the Cougars. The following season, he led the Mountain West Conference with 14 rushing touchdowns and accumulated 1,123 yards on 210 carries. In his final year, Brown tallied 1,010 rushing yards and 566 receiving yards with 10 total touchdowns over 13 games. He held the school’s rushing record with 3,241 yards until Harvey Unga surpassed it in 2009.

After college, Brown signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2007, but he was released after four preseason appearances. BYU has not yet commented on the tragic incident involving Brown’s family.
