Mack Hollins Embraces Eccentric Lifestyle as Patriots Wide Receiver

Mack Hollins, wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is gaining attention for his unconventional lifestyle, particularly his refusal to wear shoes. This has drawn notice during his second year with the team, not for his speed or defensive reading, but for his bare feet.

Hollins, who is unapologetic about his habit, has found acceptance locally, as restaurants now welcome him barefoot. He mentioned during an interview at the Patriots training camp that his barefoot lifestyle no longer seems unusual, noting, “It’s great because now they’re kind of letting me slide being barefoot in restaurants and stuff because they know who I am.” What initially seemed out of place has become a familiar sight.

“I love it,” Hollins said. “At first, it was like a homeless guy coming in here, but now it’s like the mechanic homeless guy so it’s all right. So yeah, it’s been great.”

This lifestyle choice isn’t for everyone. If the sight of bare feet offends you, you might not appreciate Hollins’ preference. “Every team I’ve been on, you ask them who’s the weirdest guy they’re going to say Mack,” Hollins once shared.

But his eccentricities are not disruptive. Rather, they reflect a distinct personality. Hollins is known for attending NFL games shirtless in icy Buffalo temperatures and arriving at the AFC Championship game in an Animal Muppet character mask.

Despite these traits, Hollins’ popularity is rising in New England. He explains his choice to go barefoot, saying, “Shoes are a tool and people have made them a part of their body. I wouldn’t walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.”
