Kelly Ripa recently experienced a challenging recovery following a dental procedure. The daytime TV host, known for her vibrant personality, underwent gum graft surgery. This procedure aims to address thinning or receding gums, as noted by the Cleveland Clinic.
Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, shared details on their show. He mentioned that Ripa was advised to have the surgery five years ago. He humorously recounted how Ripa joked about not being on air in five years when the recommendation was first made.
Consuelos revealed that Ripa’s recovery required silence, a tough task for the chatty host. He noted Ripa is usually a great conversationalist, and keeping her quiet has been a challenge.
“Wow. That’s got to be the hardest thing she’s ever done,” Nick Jonas remarked during the show.
As Ripa healed at home, Consuelos mentioned the difficulty wasn’t just managing the pain. It was also about convincing Ripa not to obsess over her healing gums. He shared a humorous anecdote about their failed attempts to assess the gums without touching her lip.
Despite her reputation for enduring dental visits without novocaine, this surgery left Ripa in significant discomfort. Consuelos confirmed the pain was a sign of the surgery’s seriousness, highlighting Ripa’s typically high pain tolerance. Nick Jonas also praised the resilience of women, drawing parallels with his wife’s similar ability to withstand pain.
Ripa won’t return to “Live” until the following week as she continues her recovery at home.
