Details Emerge on Missing American Woman in Grenada

Elizabeth Waddell, an American tourist, has been missing since July 22 while on vacation in Grenada. Her last known appearance was at Grand Anse Beach in the capital, St. George’s. A surveillance video obtained by the Royal Grenada Police Force shows the 44-year-old mother from North Carolina heading to the pier and entering the water. The footage captures Waddell swimming before she drifts out of the camera’s view, according to family spokesperson Amanda Romano-Harmon.

The police have not made these surveillance images available to the public. Waddell was vacationing for three weeks with a friend, Heather Poole. On July 22, she left their Airbnb around noon. When Waddell did not return after several hours, Poole searched for her and discovered a towel but no other personal items. Romano-Harmon stated, “Liz had left in a swimsuit with a towel. She didn’t take her phone, ID, or shoes.” Romano-Harmon described her as a generous person who would selflessly help others.

Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, along with other family members, have traveled to Grenada to assist with the search. Speaks about her, Cailen described his wife as a loving, free-spirited person who easily befriended others. The police have appealed to local boaters and residents for any information related to Waddell’s disappearance.

The U.S. State Department has confirmed awareness of the reports concerning the missing American. The ongoing search efforts continue in Grenada as authorities seek any leads that may emerge.
