Adrianne Palicki Embraces Creativity in Texas

Adrianne Palicki, known for her role in “Friday Night Lights,” shared how relocating to Texas gave her something she felt Hollywood couldn’t. In a recent interview at a special fan event for the show’s 20th anniversary, hosted by Plex and ATX TV, Palicki discussed finding “heart” in Texas, something she felt was missing amid the “negativity” in Los Angeles.

“Heart. Not a lot of my friends are actually even in the industry, but it does give us creative freedom and now there’s a huge industry starting to pick up there,” Palicki explained, referring to Austin, Texas. “We’re able to make the movies we wanna make.”

Palicki, who played Tyra Collette from 2006 to 2011, explained the cost differences between LA and Austin. In California, budgets are substantial even for small films. In contrast, Austin allows filmmakers to collaborate on smaller budgets, facilitating creativity.

“In Austin, you can get together with your friends and you can. You know, scrape it up, and you just make whatever you want to make, and I think that’s really special,” she said.

Her decision to move followed her experience filming “Friday Night Lights.” After shooting the pilot, she relocated to Texas, initially staying with co-star Connie Britton.

“I think getting outside of the element that can be sometimes negative in LA, where we’re all vying for the same thing,” Palicki emphasized, appreciating the “very positive environment and community” in Texas.

The show’s 20th anniversary is commemorated with a road trip hosted by Plex and ATX TV, celebrating in various cities including New York and Kansas City. In Los Angeles, fans enjoyed a cast-selected episode screening and discussions with cast members, highlighting the series’ community and impact.

Palicki also described daily life in Austin. “I’m probably one of those people that wakes up a little too late, snuggles with my dog. I get to walk a lake, it’s green, it’s lush, it is humid, the food is unbelievable,” she shared, enjoying a sense of community.

Reflecting on her time in “Friday Night Lights,” Palicki noted lessons learned. “It changed my life, it changed my way of acting,” she said, describing the unique shooting process that allowed for improvisation and collaboration. “And people try to copy it, but I think it’s just a very special show.”
