Kyle Kuzma Criticizes NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Remarks on Netanyahu

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently faced criticism for his comments about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma challenged Mamdani, suggesting the mayor’s actions were more about appearances than governance. Kuzma labeled Mamdani a ‘mayor playing president.’

Kuzma, an NBA veteran, reacted to Mamdani’s video on X. In the video, Mamdani called for Netanyahu’s arrest under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant ahead of the United Nations General Assembly. Kuzma’s response criticized the focus on appearances over substance.

He tweeted, ‘This is 2026. People cosplaying as things they don’t have the authority, the talent, or the track record to actually be. Just for content.’ Kuzma illustrated this point by highlighting Mamdani’s lack of impact compared to his public persona.

The video also received attention from other NBA players. Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama liked Mamdani’s Instagram post. In the post, Mamdani accused Netanyahu of genocide and advocated for his arrest if he visits New York City.

Mamdani’s rhetoric has sparked criticism from Jewish organizations and political opponents. Both groups accuse Mamdani of promoting anti-Israel sentiments. The ICC’s jurisdiction over Israel is rejected by the Israeli government and Netanyahu has denied ICC’s allegations.

Mamdani acknowledged that New York City lacks legal authority to arrest foreign leaders, despite earlier directives to the city’s legal department. Critics argue Mamdani should prioritize local issues like crime, sanitation, and housing affordability rather than international conflicts.

Kuzma’s remarks contrast with the support Mamdani received from Irving and Wembanyama. Their reactions underscore the divided opinions among NBA figures regarding Mamdani’s approach and rhetoric.
