Many Americans are closely following the news about the recent cyclospora outbreak. A CBS News/YouGov survey indicates that four out of 10 people are buying or consuming less produce as a result. Women, along with older individuals, show a slightly higher tendency towards this behavior compared to men and younger people.
The cyclospora outbreak has captured public attention to a degree similar to that of the ongoing conflict with Iran. Those who follow the news about the parasite very closely are more likely to reduce their produce consumption.
Public trust in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to manage the outbreak varies. While more people express confidence than not, very few have “a lot” of confidence in the FDA. Political affiliation influences these perceptions, with Republicans showing more confidence in the FDA than Democrats.
This survey was conducted among 2,193 U.S. adults from July 22 to 24, 2026. It is designed to represent the national adult population, considering factors like gender, age, race, and education. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
