NFL Training Camp: Chicago Bears’ Potential Roster Cuts

Training camp has officially commenced for numerous NFL teams. Some teams will start their camp in the following week. The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers are set to begin the 2026 preseason with the Hall of Fame Game. This matchup is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 6, and will be broadcast on NBC. Preseason Week 1 officially begins the next week on Aug. 13.

The regular NFL season starts with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. This game will feature on ‘Sunday Night Football’ on Sept. 9. As the season approaches, evaluating key offseason storylines for all 32 teams becomes crucial.

Chicago Bears’ Roster Evaluation

This week, the focus is on the Chicago Bears, specifically players at risk of being cut during the preseason.

Roschon Johnson, RB

Roschon Johnson was once seen as an integral part of Chicago’s future running back lineup. In 2024, he rushed for 352 yards and scored six touchdowns as a rookie. However, Johnson only appeared in seven games last season and had just two carries. Meanwhile, Kyle Monangai rushed for 783 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie, and the team signed Salvon Ahmed early in the offseason. These developments make Johnson’s future with the Bears uncertain. He may need to find a new team by August.

Scotty Miller, WR

The Bears’ depth at wide receiver led the team to trade D.J. Moore to the Buffalo Bills. With Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze leading their wide receiver group, the team feels confident. Kalif Raymond joined as a free agent, and rookie Zavion Thomas impressed many after being drafted in the third round. Initially, Scotty Miller appeared to be a solid depth addition. However, as the regular season approaches, it seems increasingly likely Miller will be pushed down the depth chart and possibly released.

Jaylon Jones, CB

Chicago possesses strong cornerback options in Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson. Additionally, fourth-round rookie Malik Muhammad shows significant potential. However, the team also has several other cornerbacks who play similar roles, including Jaylon Jones, Josh Blackwell, KC Eziomume, Dallis Flowers, Cam Lewis, Dontae Manning, and Terrell Smith. With Jones being 29, the team might decide to let him go to provide more opportunities for younger players.
