Louisiana’s Education Goals and Financial Aid Challenges

2 weeks ago 0

The state of Louisiana aims for 60% of working-age adults to possess a degree or a valuable credential by 2030. This objective highlights the importance of higher education in addressing the affordability crisis in both Louisiana and the broader United States.

Financial aid at the federal level is facing reductions. Grad PLUS loans have been eliminated, and stricter limits on graduate borrowing are reducing aid for high-need professions such as nursing and social work. These changes impact the ability of students to fund their education in these critical fields.

Additionally, subsidized federal student loans, which provide significant interest savings for students over time, are at risk. They are included in the House’s proposed funding cuts for the next fiscal year, potentially affecting many students’ financial planning and access to education.
