Arson Attack on NYC Federal Building Caught on Video

Federal prosecutors have released surveillance footage depicting an alleged arson attack on a government building in New York City. This building hosts offices for several agencies, including the FBI and ICE. The accused, Andrew Arrabaca, a 43-year-old man originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, is alleged to have used fireworks and gasoline in his attack outside 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan.

The video reportedly shows Arrabaca, dressed in camouflage pants and a helmet, carrying a cart with an anti-ICE banner. Following this, the suspect can be seen positioning fireworks, which he allegedly ignites before targeting pedestrians with them. He then returns with a BB or pellet gun and shoots it before pouring gasoline on the steps and igniting the fire. The video concludes with the suspect throwing a box, said to contain more fireworks, into the flames.

Authorities detained Arrabaca at the scene. According to court reports, at least one person suffered a head injury from explosive debris, while two others sustained minor injuries. The suspect carried additional weapons, including axes, a hammer, a machete, and knives. Photos from his apprehension indicated a BB or pellet gun was used instead of an initially suspected Airsoft rifle.

James Barnacle, assistant director of the FBI’s New York Field Office, described Arrabaca as an “anti-American, anti-government extremist.” Arrabaca allegedly motivated his actions by anti-government beliefs, accusing authorities of unlawfully harming people. He chose the staircase for its proximity to a busy entrance.

Arrabaca served in the U.S. Army as a missile system mechanic from 2001 to 2005. According to voter records, he is registered as a Democrat and a member of the Working Families party. Despite his arrest, he has no prior criminal record.

Federal authorities have seized Arrabaca’s vehicle and are working on a search warrant. The Federal Plaza, despite being one of the most secure locations in Manhattan, has historically been a target for extremist activities due to its prominent agencies.
