Country singer Rory Feek shared a frightening experience involving his family. Two weeks post open-heart surgery, his daughter, Indiana, faced a health scare requiring urgent medical attention. Indiana, 12, who has a congenital heart defect called ventricular septal defect, was airlifted to a hospital after displaying alarming symptoms.

In a detailed post, Feek described the situation that escalated quickly. It began with what seemed like a routine illness but soon turned critical. Indiana, who was born in 2014 with this heart defect, initially appeared to have a mild issue. Feek, however, soon realized the situation was severe when Indiana collapsed after feeling unwell.

He described the panic-stricken moments as he and his wife, Rebecca, sought emergency help. They feared the worst as they held their daughter, overwhelmed with worry. Indiana’s condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting immediate medical intervention.

Doctors in Waco, Texas, determined that Indiana required specialized care, leading to her transport to Austin. Feek described the difficult moment as the helicopter carrying Indiana departed, while he could only follow by truck.

Medical professionals soon identified a dangerous fluid accumulation around Indiana’s heart. This necessitated emergency surgery, as the fluid impaired the heart’s function. Feek explained that this was a possible post-surgical complication, not linked to any parental action.

Doctors removed a significant amount of fluid, leading to a dramatic improvement in Indiana’s condition. X-rays showed her heart had swollen significantly, confirming the necessity of the procedure.

According to Feek, following the surgery, Indiana showed significant recovery signs. Her health improved, with promising feedback from the medical team. Both her parents were relieved to see their daughter’s color return, both physically and emotionally.

This emergency occurred shortly after Feek shared plans for Indiana’s corrective heart surgery. Babies with Down syndrome, like Indiana, frequently have heart conditions. Statistics from the National Down Syndrome Society indicate about 50% of such infants face heart issues.

Earlier that month, Feek had marked Indiana’s successful initial surgery discharge, expressing thankfulness. The ordeal took an emotional toll on him, but he expressed gratitude for the progress made.
