A crewmember from the Regal Princess cruise ship has died after going overboard near Cancún. This incident occurred after the ship departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Regal Princess had set sail from Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. The identity of the crewmember was not disclosed by the cruise company.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time. Grief support services are being offered to guests and crew members affected by this event,” the company said in a statement.
The company expressed gratitude to local authorities and the crew of the Carnival Jubilee for their assistance in the search-and-rescue operation.
The Regal Princess has since continued its journey and has departed the waters off Cancún, with its next scheduled stop in Belize on Tuesday. The seven-day cruise is set to return to Fort Lauderdale as planned on Saturday.
