The Death of Influencer Connor Murphy

Influencer Connor Michael Murphy, known for his content focused on “looksmaxxing,” died on July 7 in Thailand. Authorities stated his death was due to an apparent drowning. He was 32 years old.

Friends of Murphy confirmed his passing on July 8 through various social media posts. Thai police in Samut Prakan province, located approximately 16 miles from Bangkok, responded to a call concerning a man behaving erratically at a high-end rental home. Both the Bangkok Post and Thairath reported this incident.

A staff member at the residential village captured video footage of Murphy before he entered a nearby lake. Reports indicated he had an altercation with a security guard at the rental property. Witnesses mentioned to Khaosod English that Murphy swam for several minutes before losing strength. They refrained from entering the water due to its depth of over 10 meters, nearly 33 feet.

Divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation located Murphy 30 minutes after beginning their search, finding him roughly 20 meters from the shore. The Elite force of divers was instrumental in efforts to recover Murphy.

The Thai police informed local media that an initial examination showed no visible signs of assault. His body has been sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for a post-mortem.

Murphy had gained a large following on social media platforms like Instagram, showcasing his transformation from a skinny teenager to a fitness model and competitive bodybuilder. He aligned himself with the looksmaxxing community, a male-focused subculture emphasizing fitness and physical enhancement.

Murphy and his 22-year-old girlfriend, referred to as Bee, were staying at a luxury villa under a three-month rental agreement. Reports state the villa is valued at 22 million baht (about $600,000) and rented for 35,000 baht monthly (a little over $1,000). Police later found parts of the home defaced with black and yellow paint.

Bee informed authorities that the damage occurred overnight while she was asleep in another room. She stated to local outlets that she had never seen Murphy use drugs, though she described his behavior as unusual on the day of the incident.

Murphy, originally from Texas, had over 2.7 million followers across platforms like YouTube and Instagram. His content focused chiefly on bodybuilding and fitness. His last social media update occurred on July 3, featuring a video of himself playing with a soccer ball in a luxury home. His final YouTube upload was made six days before his death.

The investigation is currently ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
