Justin Baldoni Discusses ‘It Ends With Us’ Legal Dispute

Justin Baldoni spoke out Wednesday regarding the legal conflict surrounding “It Ends With Us.” He shared a brief video on Instagram with his wife Emily, expressing how gratitude helped them through it. “Gratitude has saved us,” Baldoni said, reflecting on the events since Blake Lively accused him of sexual harassment during the movie’s filming.

Blake Lively alleged that Baldoni’s company, Wayfarer Studios, retaliated after she complained about misconduct. Baldoni denied all claims fiercely. This year, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed most of Lively’s claims, including harassment, defamation, and conspiracy.

The judge ruled Lively couldn’t pursue certain claims under federal civil rights law since she was an independent contractor. Liman allowed three claims to proceed: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation. A settlement was reached in May before trial.

Lively’s team didn’t respond to Wednesday’s video. Baldoni avoided mentioning Lively, the film, or the legal battle in the video. He spoke of the dispute’s personal impact, noting painful things have been discussed publicly. “This created so much noise, and we didn’t want to add to it, letting the justice system take its course,” he said.

“The truth and the facts have spoken for themselves, and here we are,” said Emily Baldoni.

Emily added gratitude has helped their family despite facing injustice and pain. She mentioned their family’s struggle with understanding the events and how it’s been packaged as a fight for women.

Lively made her allegations public in December 2024, months after the film’s release. Initially filing a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, she later pursued a federal lawsuit. The case affected Hollywood, revealing texts between celebrities and disclosing business exchanges that are usually private.

Baldoni, known for “Jane the Virgin,” has kept a low profile since the matter arose, issuing statements through legal channels and exiting Hollywood. He’s now residing in Nashville, Tennessee, with his family.

Baldoni hadn’t posted on Instagram since June 2025, celebrating his anniversary. Since the lawsuit, no new acting or directing announcements have been made.

In January 2025, Baldoni filed a countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, alleging defamation and extortion. He claimed they aimed to destroy his reputation and said Lively’s grievances were a tactic to control the film.

Liman dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit but allowed Lively to request damages under California Civil Code Section 47.1, a law defending those who report sexual misconduct from retaliatory defamation claims.

Lively’s legal team asserted she should recoup $7,495,526.87 in attorney fees and $539,514.01 in litigation expenses, claiming intertwined legal work required reimbursement.

Baldoni and Wayfarer must respond to Lively’s request by Monday. In the video, Baldoni and his wife thanked supporters, expressing deep gratitude. Justin Baldoni said, “Thank you does not feel like enough,” acknowledging the support of friends and family.

Emily Baldoni hinted at the possibility of saying more later, but for now, emphasized healing and enjoying time with their children.
