USMNT Faces Controversy and Defeat in 2026 FIFA World Cup

Folarin Balogun of the United States men’s national team found himself in an unexpected situation during the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. The USMNT experienced a significant 4-1 loss against Belgium in the Round of 16 on July 6. Balogun, who did not anticipate playing in this crucial match, suddenly became the center of a controversial decision.

On July 1, a match against Bosnia-Herzegovina saw Balogun receiving a red card for a challenge with Tarik Muharemovic. After a VAR review, the decision triggered a one-game suspension.
