Judge Tony Graf Presides Over Charlie Kirk Murder Case

Judge Tony Graf of Utah’s Fourth District Court is presiding over a significant legal case involving the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Mr. Graf, a recently appointed judge, steps into this role less than a year after his appointment.

Mr. Graf previously served as a prosecutor in both Davis County and Utah County, areas connected to the case of Mr. Kirk, who was killed last year. Following his appointment by Governor Spencer Cox in August 2025, the judge has taken on cases involving serious charges, including child sexual abuse and threats against notable Utah officials.

The current case centers on determining whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial against Tyler Robinson, accused of being responsible for Mr. Kirk’s death on a university campus in Utah last fall. The hearing began this week and is anticipated to continue for several days.

Governor Cox praised Judge Graf’s appointment in May 2025, highlighting his strong ethics and the reliable judgment expected within Utah’s judiciary. Judge Graf holds a law degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, as well as a master’s degree in criminal justice from Weber State University.
