Novak Djokovic has strengthened his status as one of tennis’s greatest players with a historic victory at Wimbledon. He triumphed over Roman Safiullin with scores of 7-6 (6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, advancing to the quarterfinals. This win marked Djokovic’s 106th victory at Wimbledon, surpassing Roger Federer’s record and placing Djokovic at the top of the all-time list.
While Martina Navratilova holds the combined men and women’s record with 120 wins, Djokovic continues his pursuit of that milestone. Reflecting on his significant win, Djokovic stated, “Survive to thrive, that’s how I feel. So hopefully the thriving part is coming.” The intense match lasted nearly three-and-a-half hours, according to ESPN. It was the longest Djokovic has played at Wimbledon since his 2023 final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz has historically posed challenges for Djokovic at Wimbledon, having defeated him in last year’s final. Janik Sinner has also been a tough opponent for him. This year, Alcaraz is absent due to a severe right wrist injury known as tenosynovitis, sidelining him for an extended period.
Meanwhile, Sinner remains a top contender and currently leads the race with -175 odds to win, facing Shintaro Mochizuki. DraftKings Sportsbook places Djokovic as a +500 favorite to win the tournament. Should he succeed, he would claim his eighth title, matching Federer’s record for Wimbledon titles.
Despite the intensity of Sunday’s match, Djokovic continues to perform superbly. Fans are curious about his readiness for the upcoming match against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed and No. 4 ATP player, scheduled for Tuesday, July 7.
