Australian Woman Finds Strength in Support After Shark Attack

Leah Stewart, an Australian teacher and mother, is recovering after a shark attack at Coogee Beach in Sydney. During her nights of sleeplessness, she finds solace in messages of support from around the world.

Her brother, Joshua Stewart, shared updates via GoFundMe, highlighting how Leah draws inspiration from these messages. “She has had challenging days, but real strength comes from your kindness and support,” he noted.

Struggling with sleep, Leah reads messages not only from her local community but also from global supporters. This worldwide goodwill offers her comfort and strength.

The incident, which occurred on June 13, left Leah with severe injuries, including bites on her arms and legs. She was placed on life support, underwent a medically induced coma, and had an arm amputated. Surgeons continue to work on her stabilization.

Awakening from a 10-day coma, Leah expressed love to her family. Her immediate concern was her young daughter, August, highlighting her dedication as a mother.

A GoFundMe campaign supports Leah, her partner Fernando, and daughter August. Funds help with her recovery, necessary prosthetics, rehabilitation, and adjustments for resuming her life as a mother.

The family expressed gratitude towards the first responders and St. Vincent’s Hospital medical team for their care and support following the attack.
