For most professional golfers, a five-month gap between PGA Tour victories is common. For world number one Scottie Scheffler, this gap raises questions about his performance. The recent Travelers Championship challenged these concerns, even if Scheffler has to wait until Monday to see if the streak ends.

The playoff starts at 9 a.m. ET on the par-4 18th hole. The format is sudden death, meaning the first player to win a playoff hole claims the trophy.

Final Round Highlights

Scheffler entered the final round with one victory in 2026, dating back to January at The American Express. Despite this, he had eight top-five finishes in his first 13 starts, including runner-up placements at the Masters and the RBC Heritage.

Hovland ensured the tournament needed more than 72 holes. After starting one shot behind, Scheffler settled into a tie with Hovland early due to Hovland’s bogey on the first hole.

Scheffler had a steady front nine with a birdie and a bogey, while Hovland’s performance allowed other players like Collin Morikawa to briefly pose a challenge. Morikawa posted a clubhouse lead at 20-under after shooting a 61.

Weather Delays and Playoff Setup

Heavy rain delayed play, but Hovland quickly regained momentum post-delay. He birdied the 14th and 15th holes, pulling level with Scheffler. Despite approaching the 18th hole closely matched, Scheffler missed a birdie chance, leading to the playoff scenario.

This playoff is the first Monday showdown on the PGA Tour since 2025. Scheffler holds previous experience triumphing in playoffs at the same course in 2024 against Tom Kim. TPC River Highlands has become a favored venue for him, showcasing successful finishes in previous years.
