Search for Kansas City Shooting Suspect Concludes

4 hours ago 0

A week-long search for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, 22, has wrapped up in Kansas City, Missouri. Police suspect Sanchez-Munoz is involved in a series of shootings that resulted in one death and left four others injured. His family noted he displayed signs of schizophrenia. The FBI had announced a $25,000 reward for information.

Authorities informed Fox News that the body of Sanchez-Munoz, presumed to be him, was located by family in a charred home’s basement. This discovery followed multiple unsuccessful searches by investigators, federal partners, and K-9 units at the Independence, Missouri, property. The home’s basement was hazardous, partially collapsed, flooded, and filled with debris, inhibiting the search.

The massive manhunt started after Sanchez-Munoz allegedly targeted vehicles along Interstate 70 near World Cup venues. This string of shootings severely injured several, including an Uber driver ferrying soccer fans and killed one person.

Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche had speculated publicly about the suspect’s possible death in the Missouri home, though confirmation was pending until now. FBI officials identified Sanchez-Munoz by distinctive acne scars and his height of 5 feet 8 inches. Clothing on the remains matched what the shooter wore during the incidents last week, helping officials deduce the identity. A medical examiner will verify the identity and establish the death cause.

Authorities reassured the community that there’s no further threat, and all survivors are expected to recover fully.
