Delaware Senator Discusses Socialist Wins in New York Primaries

Delaware Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester was asked by CNBC’s “Squawk Box” about the outcome of recent New York primary elections where three socialist candidates defeated two incumbent lawmakers. When questioned about socialism’s benefits, Blunt Rochester avoided a direct answer. Instead, she focused on the overall voter engagement.

“I think that the level of engagement is positive, especially as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States,” Blunt Rochester stated. She emphasized the significance of local politics, noting how Democratic strategies differ based on geography. She cited Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign focus on “fish, family and freedom” as an example of tailored messaging.

Blunt Rochester expressed that Democrats are keen on listening to constituents and addressing economic concerns. “We believe people are worried about the economy and costs, and we’re fighting for them,” she added.

During the interview, CNBC host Joe Kernen asked, “Where has socialism ever worked, senator?” Blunt Rochester responded with deflection, suggesting the topic could be discussed in a future interview.

The three successful New York candidates, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and Brad Lander, promoted a socialist economic agenda, opposing Israel and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They received endorsements from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani before their victories.
