Obama Jokes About His Influence on Trump

4 hours ago 0

Former President Barack Obama recently quipped about having significant influence over President Donald Trump. During a conversation on the “All the Smoke” podcast with ex-NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Obama responded to the perceived fixation of the Trump administration on him. He laughed off the idea, saying he has “a suite” in Trump’s head, pointing out the obsession.

“You got to ask him what it is that…the obsession,” Obama remarked. “I obviously have a room in his head, a suite in his head.”

Barnes humorously added, “Rent-free! You do everything with grace.” Obama emphasized that while serving as president, his primary focus was on addressing immediate issues, not on predecessors. For him, being a leader means concentrating on real challenges rather than comparing oneself to those before them.

Obama criticized any leader who constantly worries about their predecessor, describing it as a sign of someone not entirely focused on the responsibilities to the American people. In the podcast, Obama noted private interactions with Trump differed significantly from public displays, hinting at a more reserved side during private conversations.

The Trump administration, however, responded with criticism. A White House spokesperson labeled Obama as “one of the most dishonest, divisive, and destructive Presidents in history.” This tension reflects the longstanding critical stance Trump holds towards Obama’s policies.

Obama admitted in an earlier interview with the New Yorker that he contemplates responding to Trump daily, yet holds back. He stated his thoughts on remaining a political leader instead of adopting a commentator’s role.
