Giannis Antetokounmpo has set the NBA world abuzz following a significant trade reported late Monday night. The Milwaukee Bucks sent the star forward alongside Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat. In return, the Bucks acquired Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap, and a second-round pick, as detailed by ESPN.

Before the trade’s announcement, Antetokounmpo posted a poignant message on X, stating, “GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout.” This statement at 5:56 p.m. on Monday signaled his awareness and acceptance of the imminent changes in his career.

Antetokounmpo leaves the Bucks after contributing to their success, including their historic 2021 NBA Finals win. However, increasing tension between Antetokounmpo and the team prompted this shift to the Miami Heat.

The 13-year NBA veteran has an impressive record, boasting two MVP titles, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and a consistent presence on the All-NBA first-team for seven seasons. In the recent 2025-26 season, Antetokounmpo had an average of 27.6 points per game, following three consecutive seasons averaging over 30 points.

Antetokounmpo is anticipated to join forces with Bam Adebayo and Norman Powell to form a formidable trio for the Heat, should Powell re-sign as a free agent. Last season, Adebayo scored an average of 20.1 points and notably dropped 83 points in a March game against the Bucks. Powell led Miami with a 21.7 points per game average during a 43-39 season where they missed the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Bucks had a challenging season, finishing with a 32-50 record as Antetokounmpo was held to just 36 games. His 28.9 minutes per game were the fewest since his debut season.

Antetokounmpo aims to rejuvenate his career and contribute to Miami’s pursuit of another championship, their last being in 2013.
